President’s Message

Hello Members and Friends

We are in the process of having a three-part series of presentations on promoting internet success for artists.

The first part of the series was last month with Ken Ronney, who explained how to take great art photos. He gave us good information for clear sharp photos and told us how to avoid problems. Good photos are crucial to art success on-line.

Now we are ready for the second and third parts. Cheryl Scheer will be our October 1st presenter and the theme is “Put Your Art On-line.”  We can’t be very successful if we do not know how to use the Internet for promotion, and that is exactly the area that Cheryl will cover in her Presentation.

She also is leading our third part of the Internet Success for Art, it is an unusual workshop on the same theme “Put Your Art On-line”  This is a “Hands On” workshop where we will bring our computers and learn lots of ways to increase our internet promotion. The cost is only $40. The date is Sunday, October 13, 2019 in our regular meeting location at the San Fernando Valley Arts and Cultural Center and the time is from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Be sure to take advantage of both these opportunities.

Very important to the success of our art club are the volunteer efforts to bring you these and other art demonstrations and presentations. A club can not succeed without the participation of its members. The SFVAC has served the artists of the San Fernando Valley since 1943. We need volunteers to help with these activities so that we can continue to do so:

  • Planning the programs
  • Arranging for the exhibits
  • Conducting the Raffle for the Miriam Thorin Art Scholarship Fund
  • Refreshments
  • The Mini Art Show

If you are interested in helping with any of these important aspects of our club for 2020, please contact me at [email protected]

Hope to see you at the Demo,

Trisha Bennett

September Mini Art Show Winners

Thank you, Ken Ronney!

Our September meeting featured Ken Ronney, a sculptor who has an expertise in photographing art. He covered the subject of “ How to Digitally Photograph Your Artwork.”. This subject is extremely important to artists because currently many exhibits can only be entered and judged by the quality of the photos sent in to the Judges. If the photos are not good, then your masterpiece may not be included in the exhibit! Quality of your photos on internet art sites, stores and web pages is just as important for viewing and for sales.Ken explained how we can make professional looking photos of our art, and avoid spending lots of money to have it done professionally.  He showed how to avoid mistakes that artists often make with their camera/art set up, lighting, camera exposure, tripods, and color controls. He covered photography with digital cameras as well as smart phones.
