Guest Speakers:
Steve Aufhauser of Continental Art Supplies
and
Arthur Graham of M. Graham & Co.
Many of you may know Steve Aufhauser from Continental Art Supplies but many of you may not know that “Continental” was opened 45 years ago by Steve’s parents Robert and Greta. It was their idea, dream and philosophy to provide the materials that artists and craftspeople need. Along with these materials they received honest advice on usage and technique. They believed that it was not their place to judge art, but art materials. They continually searched for new products to bring in. Talking with customers, discussing their styles, the materials they use, the problems they encountered and the successes they enjoyed allowed them to evaluate the relevance, the properties and quality of nearly everything they sold.
Today Continental Art Supplies operates much the same way. Having “grown up” in the store, Steve wouldn’t know how else to run the shop. Today, as in his parent’s time, he still trusts his customers to tell him what they like and what they don’t. Questions are still asked and answers carefully listened to. Steve gladly stocks the products which customers ask for regularly and as many of you know he places special orders constantly.
Steve will talk about new products, new ideas that all media will benefit from, the phasing out of toxic chemicals like turpentine, and introducing Mr. Art Graham.
Arthur Graham, the creator of M. Graham & Co., has been in the business of making color for decades. His expert knowledge and skill of paint making began at Grumbacher where he was instrumental in developing some of the most successful paints in modern history. Many of his handmade paints have unique characteristics not found in large corporately owned manufacturers. Furthermore, each tube is hand filled.
In an age where quality appears to be forgotten, M. Graham & Co. recreates artists' color from a time when excellence was paramount. Handmade with the most beautiful pigments obtainable, each color is individually crafted to its own unique character, traditionally...one tube at a time. Among M. Graham & Co.’s products are lines of watercolor, gouache, acrylic and oil paints. The company's intention is to be artist – and environment-friendly.
