January 2007 Meeting

Guest Demonstrator: Al Setton

SettonPast President of the Valley Watercolor Society (VWS), Al Setton received his art education at the California Art Institute and through attending a number of workshops with such prominent watercolor artists as Robert E. Wood, Kathryn Chang-Lui, Charles Reid and Christopher Schink. Al is quick to point out however that his good friend Henry Fukuhara has been the greatest inspiration.

Al’s work has achieved international recognition and he has received a number of awards, most recently from Watercolor West. His works hang in any number of private and public collections including at UCLA. Al enjoys writing about art and has had featured articles in the August 2003 issue of Watercolor Magic as well as the monthly column in the VWS newsletter.

Al is a popular workshop teacher, most recently at the Yosemite Art Center and Doyon Studios in Camarillo.

Working in a variety of watermedia, Al’s work is bold, spontaneous, bright and fun, evoking the power of early childhood memories.

As Assistant Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies at UCLA, Al uses his artistic creativity to address the myriad administrative and academic issues he faces in the scope of his duties.
