November 2005 Meeting

Guest Demonstrator: Dory Grade

Dory GradeDory Grade has been a professional artist for more than 40 years. A background of 50 years in graphic design, architectural tile and murals for Mosaic Tile Co., and  nationally syndicated illustrator for Lois Wyse' poetry has led her to being committed to drawing from life and nature. "It is the foundation of all my art," states Dory.

Extremely versatile, equally comfortable with drawing, watercolor, oil, acrylic,  silkscreen, and etchings, Dory has published a line of prints and greeting cards, along with original art from her life experiences. She has completed her 31st exhibition at the famed Descanso Gardens in La Canada-Flintridge, and will be returning there in April, 2006. Dory's work is defined, not by a style, but rather by continual experimentation, growth, and change. The only constant is her focus on the natural world. "Life without art is not a possibility for me."

Early Dogwood by Dory GradeDory studied at Jepson Art Institute in Los Angeles, Cal State Fullerton, El Camino College, Otis Art Institute, UCLA, and with Master painters Josef Silhavey and Robert E. Wood.  Forty years of teaching both privately and in the LA Adult Schools, while raising seven children, has led to concentration on fine arts as a way of life for Dory. Through the years, she has received many awards from competitions throughout Southern California; art associations throughout California have invited Dory to demonstrate her unique ability in performance painting inspired by nature.

Dory will be demonstrating in watercolor at the November 1st meeting. Click here to visit her web site and view more of her work.
