Watercolor Portrait Demonstration by Fealing Lin

Tuesday, June 4, 2019 – 6:30 to 9:00 pm

Artist Dorrie RifkinDon’t miss this Demo! Fealing Lin will demonstrate Watercolor Portraits at the Joint Meeting of the San Fernando Valley Art Club and the California Art League. This will be the last monthly meeting before the Summer Break.  Members pay $5, Guests $8.

“Award-winning watercolorist, Fealing Lin, was born in Taiwan and began her journey into artistic expression as a protege of renowned professor Ching-Jung Chen in Taiwan, subsequently pursuing her career in the United States with watercolorist and senior art historian professor Verna Wells. With a fluidity of colors, Ms. Lin combines impressionistic strokes and semi-abstract techniques to elicit life and movement in her portraits and landscape watercolors. Her paintings adorn the paper with both harmony and emotion.”

President’s Message

Dear Members and Friends,

Save this date on your calendars! Tuesday, June 4th at 6:30 to 9:00 pm for our last meeting before the Summer Break! It is a terrific demonstration by Fealing Lin showing her techniques for WATERCOLOR PORTRAITS. I think her techniques can be applied to acrylic and oil paintings as well, if you work with glazes. Just check out her web site to see the wonderful results she creates.  Here is Fealing’s web site: http://www.fealingwatercolor.com/home

PLUS! There are still a few openings in her Watercolor Portrait Workshop. It will be on Sunday, June 9, 2019 at the same place we meet – The SFVACC. The workshop will start at 9:00 am and end at 4:00 pm, and that includes a break in the middle for lunch. The price is only $70 – a bargain for such a wonderful opportunity. Visit our web site for the sign-up form to print out and send in.

During the summer, there are many possibilities for us to show our art.
One wonderful summer activity is Plain Air painting with David Deyell. You can enjoy fantastic vistas and scenery for free – just take your gear and go there with fellow artists to make it fun as well as rewarding with good art experiences.

David has planned the following summer outings. Visit the web sites for directions:

Wednesday, June 5th , 9:00 am at the Leonis Adobe Museum
Wednesday, July 9th – 9:00 am at the Rancho Sierra Vista/Satwiwa
And Wednesday August 21st. – 9:00 am at the Stagecoach Inn Museum

Another free venue is a possible trip to the beach – Venice Beach! If there is interest, we can have a group of artists go there and set out our work for free and sell to tourists  – or just enjoy the cool sea breeze and a lazy summer day. Venice Beach is one of the most popular sites for visitors to L.A. Artists can set up in the 10 x 10 foot spaces for free. But it is crowded in the summer and it is important to go early to get a spot. If you have never tried it – you might be pleasantly surprised. If you are interested in going there, let me know, and if enough people want to do it, we can make a day trip for it.

Another place is “The NO HO Summer Nights” where the spaces for artists are free! See the advertisement below.

Also, I have continued to put our members work on our SFVAC Pinterest Boards, and will put new work there also if you can put it on your web page, Facebook page, Instagram page, or web store etc. You just have to let me know the url location so I can add it to our current work, and also be sure to include titles, prices or other information about it. If you do not have those web addresses, and you are a current member of the club, you can show 6 pieces of your art in our members gallery. Send your 6 photos to Diana Hartman at [email protected] so she can include them in our gallery, and then I can link them to our Pinterest Boards.

Continue making your art, and have a great summer.

Thank you, Beth Summers!

Our May guest artist at the joint meeting of the San Fernando Valley Art Club and the California Art League was well-known Plein Air artist Beth Summers who demonstrated her Palette Knife painting technique in Acrylic. Not only did she show us how to create a successful painting, but she did it on an canvas that had an old painting with texture on it! She showed us how to adapt her technique to this challenge and create a lovely painting.
Beth is generous, and donated one of her paintings to The San Fernando Valley Art Club “Miriam Thorin Scholarship Fund” Raffle that was won by Susie Gesundheit.
